The old roof comes off, the deck is checked, and the new system goes on: underlayment, flashing, vents and shingles. Flashing around chimneys and walls is where many leaks start, so it gets the same attention as the shingles. Architectural shingles are two bonded layers. They are thicker, add depth to the roof, and usually carry longer warranties than flat 3-tab shingles, which most GTA re-roofs have moved away from. We install CertainTeed and BP Canada shingles, bought from Danforth Roofing Supplies, Etobicoke Roofing Supplies, Spar-Marathon and Roofmart, the GTA's roofing supply houses, so the product on your roof is the real thing with a real warranty behind it. We go over the product lines, colours and warranties with you during the estimate so you can pick what suits your house and your street.

What is the difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles?

Do you use ice and water shield?
Yes, along the eaves, where ice dams push water back under the shingles. The code minimum at the eaves is 900 mm up the slope. We go over the coverage on your roof in the estimate.
Can shingles go over my old roof?
We recommend a tear-off so the decking can be checked. Most manufacturers advise against shingling over laminated shingles (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association).
What do granules in my eavestrough mean?
The shingles are wearing. A few granules after a new install is normal. Steady loss on an older roof is a sign it is near the end.
How do I know my shingles need replacing?
Curling or missing shingles, granules in the eavestroughs, and leaks in more than one spot are the common signs. A free inspection with photos will tell you for sure.
Can I choose the shingle colour?
Yes. We go over colours with you during the estimate.
Do I need a permit for a shingle re-roof in Toronto?
No. The City of Toronto does not require a permit to replace roofing material when no structural work is needed.
