Synthetic slate or natural slate

We install both. Natural slate is stone: it can last a century, it costs about $20 to $35 per square foot in Ontario according to Green Building Canada, and it is heavy enough that the framing often has to be checked before it goes on. Synthetic slate gives the look at a fraction of the weight, on standard framing. Some synthetic slate lines carry a Class 4 impact rating, the highest there is, which matters in a market that saw ping-pong-ball hail in September 2026.

Synthetic slate roofs from Eagle Roofing usually run from about $50,000 to $250,000 or more. These are large roofs with a lot of detail, and the estimate itemizes every part of them.

Cedar in a freeze-thaw climate

Cedar roofs last about 30 to 40 years on average, according to the Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau. Shakes outlast shingles, and treated cedar outlasts untreated. The rule for cedar in the GTA is that it has to dry out between wettings: keep moss, leaves and overhanging branches off it, and make sure the attic under it breathes. A cedar roof from Eagle Roofing usually runs from about $40,000 to $60,000 or more.

Copper roofs and copper work

Copper is in our legal name, Eagle Roofing and Copper Work, because we have done it from the start. We install copper roofs over bays, porticos and entries, copper flashing at chimneys and walls, and copper cupolas and trim. New copper is bright, then browns, then turns green over the years. That is the metal doing what it should. We work copper into the roof plan rather than adding it after, as on the houses in the photos.

Heritage homes

If your house sits in one of Toronto's Heritage Conservation Districts or is a designated property, changing the roof material can need the City's approval. Check the heritage register before you choose, and bring the answer to the estimate so we can plan around it.

Is this the right call for your roof?

Call us for this when

  • The house calls for slate or cedar
  • You want copper details over bays or at the flashing
  • Shingles would not suit the style of the home

Pick something else when

  • You want shingles: asphalt shingle roofing
  • You want metal: metal roofing

Afterwards: keeping it in shape

  1. Keep moss and debris off

Cedar lasts longer when it can dry out.

  2. Let copper age

Copper darkens over time. That is normal.

  3. Look after big storms

Check from the ground for anything lifted or out of place.

Had our roof done 15 years ago and it has held up beautifully. We’ve had no issues and the workmanship has stood the test of time. Very happy with the quality of the work and would definitely recommend this company.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had my roof done by Eagle Roofing, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. They helped make sure the roof was completed on time, which was extremely important because I was trying to prevent further water damage to my home. The team was very professional, reliable, and reasonably priced. What really stood out to me was their attention to detail. During the quotation process, they actually went up on the roof to inspect everything carefully and make sure nothing was missed. They also found water damage to the plywood and, rather than simply covering it up, they brought it to my attention and replaced the damaged sections properly. That gave me a lot of confidence that the job was being done the right way. I highly recommend Eagle Roofing to anyone looking for professional, honest, and quality roofing work. Great service from start to finish!

Eagle Roofing installed a new roof for me twice. The second time was due to me completing a full gut and an addition. Elias and his team were fast, efficient, on time, and on budget for both jobs. His team were impeccable with the work and clean up! I have recommended Eagle Roofing to all of my friends seeking repairs or a full replacement. I unreservedly recommend Eagle Roofing.

Outstanding Roof Re-Shingling Experience! I recently had my home's roof completely re-shingled, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the team was professional, punctual, and incredibly hardworking. They communicated clearly throughout the entire process, kept the property clean and organized, and completed the job efficiently without cutting any corners. The craftsmanship is honestly top-notch — the new shingles look fantastic and give my home a completely refreshed appearance. You can tell this crew takes real pride in their work, paying attention to every detail from the ridge lines down to the gutter edges. I've already had several neighbors stop by to ask who did the work, and I proudly tell them about the excellent experience I had. It feels great to point to my roof and know it was done right by a team that genuinely cares about quality. I'm not just satisfied — I'm proud to show off the work whenever I get the chance to talk about it. If you're considering a re-shingling project, I highly recommend this team. Reliable, skilled, and truly dedicated to doing the job the right way. Five stars all around!
