More Snow Than the City, More Ice at the Eaves
Ontario's building code lists snow loads town by town. King City does not have its own line, but the towns on either side of it do: Richmond Hill is set at 1.5 kPa of ground snow load and Aurora at 2.0 kPa, against 0.9 kPa at Toronto City Hall. Winters are colder too, with 4,000 to 4,210 heating degree-days next door against 3,520 downtown.
More snow sitting on the roof for longer means more melting and refreezing at the edge. That is where ice dams form and push water back under the shingles.
